JOHN Wells secured fifth place in the recent PGA North Region Thompson Davis Championship at the Marriott Hollins Hall, Bradford.

Wells, the teaching professional at Cherry Burton recovered from an ordinary first round of 75 which placed him equal 32nd to post a second round of 68, one of the best rounds of the championship enabling him to surge up the leaderboard for a 36-hole total of 143 and joint fifth place.
