1 Gypsy Rose Lee: A published novelist - whose works included The G-String Murders - Gypsy Rose was one of the leading burlesque artists of the 20th century. Commonly credited with putting the "tease into striptease" for her casual approach, the American was a regular in the touring troupe Minsky's Burlesque. She had a short spell in Hollywood - her acting didn't pass muster - and later her own TV show, Gypsy.
2 Josephine Baker: Nicknamed The Bronze Venus, the American-born artist became one of the main acts in the Folies Bergeres in Paris. Her career saw her become a muse for a succession of famous artists, including Pablo Picasso. Choosing to base herself permanently in France, where she married, Baker was awarded the Chevalier of the Legion d'honneur for her work in helping French citizens escape the Nazis.See the full content of this document
