ONCE again, the pressure is on to convert locally run schools into academies.
Why? What difference will this make? In 1987, schools in Hull were turned on their heads by a totally unnecessary "reorganisation", which saw schools close, with pupils and staff redistributed around the city. Serving teachers had a choice of going into primary schools or secondary schools. Many found their skills diluted, some felt undervalued and many had to become a "jack of all trades".
