Summary


ONCE again, the pressure is on to convert locally run schools into academies.

Why? What difference will this make? In 1987, schools in Hull were turned on their heads by a totally unnecessary "reorganisation", which saw schools close, with pupils and staff redistributed around the city. Serving teachers had a choice of going into primary schools or secondary schools. Many found their skills diluted, some felt undervalued and many had to become a "jack of all trades". Many retired, disillusioned. The whole exercise must have cost a fortune.
