Once upon a time, a couple of stripes on the roof, bonnet and doors was all it took to make your car "go faster". If only in your mind's eye.

I was not alone in thinking it looked the business; others were down right derogatory. "Naff" is one of the kindest words I'm prepared to recall about my sporting modifications. These days it's oh so different. And to explain what I mean, let me introduce you to this week's test car, the Renault Megane Coupe Monaco GP Limited Edition. For, in addition to having a moniker longer than any car should decently lay claim to, it's really dressed to thrill.

Is the New Megane a Sheep in Wolf's Clothing? Expectations

The car, unveiled in April, is based on the three-door coupe version of the Megane hatch. Available only in limited numbers and in any colour as long as it's white, its styling is meant to evoke Renault's finest moments at the motorsport Mecca that is the Monaco Grand Prix.
