I AM researching the military career of Sydney Carlin who served in both the Army and new RAF in the First World War. He was the son of William and Caroline Carlin, of Southcoates. William was a well known businessman in the early years of the 20th century and in 1922, when he died, he not only had a thriving business as a drysalter but among other directorships, was chairman of Newington Trawlers.
Sydney Carlin was decorated for gallantry and wounded three times. Post-war he farmed in Kenya until the onset of the Second World War persuaded him to re-enlist. Sadly he died in a bombing raid in 1941.See the full content of this document
