GREAT DAY: Billy, four, and Picture: Simon Kench Why go? This is a good example of history just on your doorstep. Fifteen generations of the same family have lived in this magnificent house, which was built between 1598 and 1610, and it has a wonderful feel of calmness, unlike some stately homes which seem intimidating. Art and treasures abound in the house with good examples of French impressionist art, intricate carvings and tapestries.
The gardens are wonderful, even non-gardeners will be glad they walked around the Elizabethan walled gardens and the woodland paths. The old manor house next to the Hall is well preserved and can be accessed up a spiral staircase.See the full content of this document
