The company has come a long way since its launch in 2000 when it operated three services a day and had an average of 60,000 passengers a year. Today the long distance, open access operator boasts seven services a day and carries around 700,000 passengers a year but First Hull Trains doesn't deny that it can't become complacent.

James, who joins the business with 13 years' industry experience, said: "I talk to customers and staff continually about the quality of the ride, presentation and the things we need to improve. It's an important part in driving the service forward for the future and is a big thing for me."
