Beverley Male Voice Choir: The choir will present a Summer Evening concert conducted by Liz Wilson, alongside pianist Pat Cave and organist Nigel Clarke in All Hallows Church, Walkington, at 7pm on Friday, September 4. The programme will consist of The Rose, Speed your Journey, and Morte Christi. The guest artistes are instrumentalists cellist Bethan Attwood, and flautist Christopher Hoggarth.Tickets are Pounds 5 and are available on the door, Beverley Tourist Information Office or from Anne Baskill on (01482) 868863. Proceeds are in aid of the Church Fabric Fund.
Hessle Theatre Company: This autumn the company is presenting Abigail's Party, by Mike Leigh. While unseen teenager Abigail throws a party next door, five neighbours meet for cocktails. Brought together by the over-bearing Beverley, the virtual strangers begin their evening in a stiff and uncomfortable way. As the alcohol takes effect, the cracks deepen and the petty prejudices are ruthlessly exposed, as this morbidly-funny play depicting suburban life in the 1970s reaches its shocking conclusion. Abigail's Party is on between Tuesday, October 13 and Saturday, October 17 at the Hull Truck at 8pm, with a 2pm matinee on the Saturday. Tickets are Pounds 6.50- Pounds 8. Call (01482) 323638. Hull Playgoers: Also at Hull Truck Studio, the Playgoers are presenting Habeas Corpus, by Alan Bennett. Canon Throbbing lusts after Constance who longs for a bigger bosom. Mr Shanks' appliances can help her, while Dr Wicksteed and hypochondriac son Dennis ogle Felicity, daughter of Lady Rumpers. Hull Choral Union: The HCU has an 80th anniversary concert on Thursday, October 22, at Hull City Hall. The show, Songs For All Seasons, starts at 7.30pm, and features as its main soloist Aled Jones.
