Arrows Star Bailey has Big Future Ahead of Him

LEON Bailey's achievement of becoming the British Teenage darts champion for the second year running has been hailed as "extraordinary". The 18-year-old from Bransholme made history by returning to Kettering and winning the national youth title again, beating England youth captain Shaun Griffiths in the final.

BRANSHOLME arrows star Leon Bailey made history by becoming the first player to ever retain the British Teenage Darts Open title. The 18-year-old was a surprise winner of the national title in 2008, but returned to Kettering a year later full of confidence to become a two-time champion.

THE East Riding's three representatives were out of luck in the English Amateur Championship, at the Rye and Littlestone Golf Clubs in Kent. Steve Uzzell (Hornsea) negotiated the 36-hole stroke-play qualifying event, but lost out to David Corben of Hindhead in the preliminary round of the knockout matchplay, losing on the 18th.

A FIELD of 58 juniors representing16 contested the Hornsea Junior The par 72 seaside course challenge. For much of the day it seemed early leader, five handicap home player Arachai Haorang, would take the honours with a gross 74.

Shimwell Lands Northern Seniors' Title

HESSLE'S Rod Shimwell bagged himself an early 59th birthday present as he claimed the English Golf Union's Northern Counties Seniors' Championship. Playing off a handicap of three at Chester Golf Club last week, the 36-hole competition attracted more than 120 players with handicaps of 10 and below, drawn from the six Northern Counties of Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire.

GANTON golfer Mark Bentley has set his sights on securing his East Riding Union spot after 12 months in which he has filled his trophy cabinet. Bentley has rarely been missing from the honours boards at Ganton Golf Club in recent times, with his most notable success coming in the Norton Cup.

WEST HULL: Heroin was found at a house in North Road following a drugs raid by police. Officers executed a search warrant at the property after receiving information and complaints from residents about suspicious activity at the address.
