The Prime Minister has confirmed that John Prescott will be in charge of the country during his summer holiday next month. Challenged by Tory leader David Cameron, Mr Blair said the arrangements would be "exactly the same" as in previous years.

Parents in Hull have been warned against letting their children play in the street after fears were raised over their safety. Members of Hull City Council's anti-social behaviour (Asbo) team have written to parents in Bushey Park Road, Kingswood, asking them to keep their children off the streets.
